William George Monnery


Summary

Monnerys passed through the hands of three successive William Monnerys, who were grandfather, father and son.

In chronological order, they were:

The eldest William is thought to have been a younger son of  Josiah Monnery and Ann Hall. Josiah and Ann had an older son, also called Josiah, who was born about 1760 in Southwark. These brothers, Josiah and William, were the leather-sellers and glovemakers mentioned in the 1794 trade directory as working at 22 Borough.
The first William Monnery died on 20th May 1845, at Newington.

William's son William Monnery married Jane Combes in Kent on 24th October 1843. He died on 13th July 1897.

The third William, William George Monnery was born in 1845 in Holborn, the eldest known son of William Monnery and Jane Combes. William George Monnery died unmarried on 26th February 1915.
William and Jane had other children. These included John, born in 1852, who later married Bertha. John and Bertha had three known children. In the 1881 census, John's occupation is given as "commercial traveller for a cloth manufacturer".
