Nineteenth century history

During this century, the Monnerys expanded their business, particularly taking advantage of potential business in Australia and New Zealand. The senior branch of the family developed into a well-known outfitters.

The junior branch, as represented by William Monnery, found a niche market for a particular branch of industrial sewing, namely printers' blankets. He moved in due course to premises near Fleet Street, that being where many of the London newspapers of the day had their printing presses.
